"The task of the artist
is to excite human beings
to reverence all that is precious
and meaningful in life."
- Matthew Fox
Many years ago, I was reading a book, when a single sentence leapt off the page and into my heart because I recognized it as invitation for my life's work. I share that statement above, near my photo because I have identified with it so closely throughout my life as my "calling" and sacred purpose. It calls me to what matters most in life. I feel enthusiasm for this "task"! And, when I learned that the word, 'enthusiasm', comes from en, meaning in, and theos, meaning God or Goddess, I discovered that each of us can look to our own enthusiasm as a sacred pointer showing us where the 'spark of our soul' will shine forth with the joy of living.

When the youngest of my three children started preschool, I went back to school to study psychology, counseling and creative-expressive therapies because I wanted to work with people who shared my enthusiasm for creativity, meaning and celebration. I delighted in the company of kindred souls when I participated in women's circles and when I attended retreats to explore the questions I was seeking answers for throughout my life. Eventually, I became a retreat director and a spiritual companion to encourage and support the journey of inner work with others . Spiritual direction and creative explorations became tools for both my work and my play.
Although I have studied creative therapies, which included art therapy and many art classes over the years, it has only been in recent years that I have given myself permission to become the artist I always longed to be. Today, I claim myself as 'artist' as a way of trusting my deeper dive into 'creativa.' For me, this journey into 'creativa' is about recognizing that we most reflect the 'image and likeness' of our Source in the creative activities of our lives.
The eternal student is another part of who I am. I have always loved learning, questions, curiosity, the call to understand more, and the acknowledgment that I will always be a student. My greatest teachers are Life and Love and relationships that have graced and challenged my soul. I have also been deeply inspired and guided by many artists and spiritual teachers along the way.
In the past few years, I've been learning with women who have touched my heart and soul through the beauty of their art and the inspiration of their wisdom. These have included Flora Aube, Michal Shimoni, Shiloh Sophia McCloud, and a dear soul sister and friend, Barb Kobe (a dollmaker). I am grateful for their guidance and connection as sisters, who honor the Wisdom of the Sacred Feminine in their creative work. I am once again take up the role of encouraging others to trust in a path of 'creativa' as a way of knowing who we are and honoring our connection to a sacred source, as it is explored with reverence in the wisdom of our hearts and the expression of our hands.
At the end of June 2020, I completed the incredible training to become certified as a facilitator with Flora Aubé and the Art of Allowing Academy.
